About Our Courses

MCTE offers three levels of coursework and credentials–Early Childhood, ages 2.5-6, Elementary I, ages 6-9, and Elementary I-II, ages 6-12.

Course Objectives

The Montessori Center for Teacher Education San Diego provides instruction for teachers in Montessori and other schools for children ages 2 ½–12.  These courses prepare individuals for employment as a Montessori teacher; offer further instruction to individuals who are already employed as teachers; individuals who would like to open their own schools and would like to use the Montessori Method; and Special Education teachers who need manipulative and concrete materials to develop neuro-muscular skills and abstract ideas.

Small class sizes provide more personalized attention and foster a stronger sense of community among students and instructors.

All course are summer intensives with a school year practicum.

Online Learning

The Early Childhood Course is a blended program designed to meet the needs of the community by offering coursework online and in person. This provides an accessible and high quality learning experience with flexibility to adult learners who are working full time or live out of the area.

We are actively developing more online coursework for all levels.

Early Childhood

The Montessori Method allows the child to work on self-selected tasks of interest in an environment that features the teacher as preparer and guide of the learning process.
